Welcome Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM)

CISSM is a research center focused on the security implications of globalization. It's Advanced Methods of Cooperative Security Program is developing strategies to address emerging challenges such as dangerous pathogens, increased military uses of space, the local dynamics of civil conflict, and the connections between global warming, nuclear energy and nuclear weapons. CISSM also has research projects on intelligence policy, public opinion, defense decision-making, the development/inequality/security nexus, and other related topics. It sponsors innovative graduate courses, including collaboration with a leading Russian institute to train the next generation of U.S. and Russian security experts. CISSM hosts a weekly brown-bag lunch Forum, organizes conferences, and helps faculty, researchers, and students at the University of Maryland connect with the policy world.

Marta Vrbetic, a Visiting Research Scholar, has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Government at the Department of Government and History at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C.
